Course Objectives:

  • To meet the didactic requirement for BCN (Board Certified in Neurofeedback)
  • To provide hands-on experience in an actual clinical office doing a qEEG and running sessions
  • To teach practitioners how to add Neurofeedback to their clinical practice in a simple and affordable manner
  • To help practitioners provide Neurofeedback services to their clients ETHICALLY and RESPONSIBLY
  • To teach the various types of Neurofeedback that can be offered to clients and when each type of intervention might be appropriate for various clinical presentations
  • To teach practitioners the most research-based Neurofeedback interventions

Orientation to Neurofeedback (4 hours)

  • Defining Neurofeedback
  • History and Development of the field
  • Overview of principals of human learning as they apply to Neurofeedback
  • Assumptions underlying Neurofeedback

Basic Neurophysiology & Neuroanatomy (4 hours)

  • Neurophysiology
  • Functional Neuroanatomy

Instrumentation and Electronics (4 hours)

  • Essential Terms & Concepts
  • Signal acquisition
  • Signal processing
  • Aseptic Techniques
  • Instrumentation Demonstration & Practice

Research Evidence Base for Neurofeedback (2 hours)

  • Methodological and statistical criteria for determining Levels of Efficacy
  • Key Research Studies establishing current efficacy levels

Psychopharmacological Considerations (2 hours)

  • Potential effects of prescribed and non-prescribed drugs on clinical presentation
  • Potential effects of prescribed and non-prescribed drugs on EEG measures
  • Potential effects of different drugs on Neurofeedback assessment and training

Patient/Client Assessment (4 hours)

  • Intake Assessment
  • EEG Assessment

Developing Treatment Protocols (6 hours)

  • Evolution of Neurofeedback protocols
  • Steps in Protocol development and treatment
  • Applying client assessment data to Neurofeedback protocol selection and treatment planning

  • Looking at clinical cases from beginning to end to review clinical outcomes of various protocol implementations

Treatment Implementation (6 hours)

  • Therapeutic relationship, coaching, and reinforcement strategies
  • Procedures and mechanics of conducting a neurofeedback session
    • Amplitude training
  • Monitoring client reaction to treatment

  • Introduction to Alpha-Theta Training
  • Guidelines and Cautions for Remote Training
  • Full Neurofeedback Session demonstrations and practice in an actual clinical office

Payment and Cancellation policy:  50% of payment is due upon registration as a deposit.  Cancellations made up to 60 days prior to the course will receive a full refund.  Cancellations within 30 days of the course will forfeit the deposit fee.  In cases of emergency the deposit credit can be used for a future in-seat course or online class.  TRS Neurofeedback Education Services reserves the right to reschedule courses based on registration numbers. Registrants will be notified at least 30 days in advance of any rescheduled courses.
